Finally Moved In … With a bit of Drama no less …

Woke up real early on Friday morning, the 29th Nov.  Being a rented place where, hadn’t unpacked most of the stuff when first moved in, packing was relatively smooth unlike when we were moving out the last time, where we had to start a month in advance.  A few days of off and on packing this time sufficed.  Was expecting no drama … movers to come at 9am, move everything across by 10am, and we start unpacking while waiting for a few important things to arrive, most important being the Mio TV service guy for without him my dad don’t get to watch TV, and most importantly, his diet of Man Utd matches on weekends.

The movers called the day before to say they would be early.  So we had to get up earlier than expected … buy breakfast for dad, unplug all the cables before they arrive.  I had left it to Shan fully to arrange with movers this time.  $120 for 30+ boxes sounds like a good deal.  The same movers I had used on a few occasions already so didn’t expect anything to go wrong.

They were late instead of early.  When they arrived at 10am, they weren’t the same folks I had used before.  He then proceeded to say he only had space in his truck for 30 boxes.  No space for the TV and other items they were supposed to be taking along.  It seemed that our mover, Ah Boon, decided to subcontract out this job to a friend and this friend came by on route of a few moves with some extra space to earn some quick cash.  So when he saw he could not put everything in, he and his gang of mother f****** just turned and left.  We were left shell shocked.  Called Ah Boon, and his excuse was Shan told him only 30 boxes, with no other specifics, so he subcontracted out this job.  That was obviously not true cos while Shan may have told him 30 + boxes with other items, that was what I told him the last time as well.   He could not find any last min movers available and whilst I was cursing and swearing at him over the phone, Shan was already online looking for another mover, which she did fairly quickly (Queen of last minute solutions, I must give it to her).  That soothed the anxiety somewhat but I swear I was on the verge of telling Ah Boon I was going to keel him, Achmed the dead terrorist style.  Irresponsible bastards just wanting to squeeze every bit of cash possible … wait …. sounds familiar these days here … tamade.  Whatever … have to see how to file this complaint another day.

The new movers (for $250, still relatively inexpensive) weren’t gonna arrive till 11am. That meant I had to go over to Jalan Bahagia first as the appliances and Mio TV people who starting to arrive.  So I left Shan to take care of telling the movers what to move.  Simple enough.  But, one big item manage to stay behind so we had to make the trip back another time at night.  Story for another day.  Suffice to say this was a team of 2 old men, one of whom was blardy grumpy and only bothered to drive, while the other, the owner, actually moved the physical stuff and poor Shan had to help him load, while when they arrived at Jalan Bahagia, I had to help unload and carry stuff into the house and upstairs.  By the time the move was complete, it was already almost 5pm.

In any case, the move is complete.  Time to unpack and organise.  Time to start taking stuff out I never knew I had and throwing away that which I wondered why I had kept all these years.

Here are the pictures the day before moving in.  One last time in its prestine condition before human habitation.

The completed dry kitchen. Most people have the living room here, so most neighbours have come by and commented it was quite different.

Looking in from the front door.

The living room … with my favourite feature wall.

Dad’s room … waiting for his bed frame to arrive the next day.

The kitchen … fully done up.

The toilet downstairs … all done up too.

The stairs with lights up … 🙂

Bedroom … ceiling fan and book shelf doubling as bed head and study, portal into the bathroom and wardrobe.

Love my shower centerpiece. Also miss having good showers for one year! Water pressure at Punggol pathetic !! 🙂

Basin behind the shower.

Another view … saves space, all in one.
